The abulous superstardom curse of the American industry is at hard work again. The curse that has eaten alive many of talented but careless musician and celebrities, has held onetime American sweetheart Christina Aguilera. Gifted with all the fame and fortune she could have ever wanted during her teen years, Aguilera lived a high profile life just like numerous of her peers and rivals, couldn't handle the media attention and her life spun out of control as soon as some rare disappointments came her way.The pop singer's bad times or bad luck reached its zenith when she was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning along with her contemporary boyfriend Matthew Rutler, and they both got to see the inside of a jail cell. Up until a year ago circumstances had looked promising again for the 30 year old singer, who seemed to be back on track after becoming a mother and making her musical comeback through her 2010 album Bionic.Billboard magazine's associate director of charts Keith Caulfield explained that such a downturn in celebrity lives is regular and cited the example of Mariah Carey whose TRL incident brought her a lot of unfavorable press, but she took it positively and silenced her critics through her smash hit 'We Belong as a group.'Aguilera and her partner, who was driving the vehicle, were arrested after the duo was found to be extremely intoxicated. She started off the year 2010 with the bitter confirmation that her album Bionic had miserably failed to impress her fans, selling a mere 250,000 units in the US.  This led Aguilera to cancel her promo tour at the last minute, and even her musical film 'Burlesque'  struggled to make an impact at the Box-office. Her marital disaster with Jordan Bratman rounded up a quartet of bad events for the Genie in a bottle-singer.Other petty incidents such as her Super Bowl lyrics gaffe and the Grammys' on-stage trip have new fuel to speculation that her partying habits have gone out of mastery.public relations expert Jonathan Cheban thinks that Aguilera's problems are nowhere near as serious as Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan, but even her minor failures are picked up and exaggerated by the individuals for the reason that of her rude behaviour throughout her career. Cheban explained that during Aguilera's peak time, it was mystifying to highlight her shortcomings as there was always the success part to talk about. But since the victories have dried up, the media has no selection but to report even her diminutive stumbles.Cheban additionally pointed at Aguilera's complete ignorance to acknowledge the rising stock of contemporary pop artists such as Lady Gaga, Ke$ha and Katy Perry, as a reason of her falling out of favour in the public. However, Caulfield insisted that the Americans are very fond of comeback stories and there is every chance that if Aguilera applies herself in the studios again, she will be liked again.

Old-Time Radio With A Smile – Edgar And Charlie

Filed Under (Article) by musician on 18-04-2011

The Edgar Bergen / Charle McCarthy Show was an absolute winner of an old time radio show, but it may come as a surprise to you as this show actually had a ventriloquist! This was in large part due to the comedic timing and talent of Edgar Bergen.

Bergen was born in 1903 and learned the art of ventriloquism at a young age. Eventually, Edgar had a local work worker create his eventual showbiz partner, the dummy known as Charlie McCarthy.

So, the duo Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy started playing at local talent skits while Bergen studied at college. Eventually he left school and began to perform his act full-time.

His show really took off in the 1930s, with performances across Europe and South America, as well as New York. Film and radio really shot up in popularity at this time, which was why vaudeville began losing a lot of its own success.

By 1936 Edger and Charlie could be heard on NBC's Royal Gelatin Hour. He became a great radio celebrity thanks to his own humor, despite the odd fact that he was a ventriloquist on the radio.

The Edgar and Charlie Show soon followed on NBC in 1937, which was a ratings hit. It wasn't until 1956 that the show came to an end, a testament to its success, and it remained on the same network too.

The Mae West "Adam and Eve" performance piece brought somewhat of a controversy to Bergen, and all this happened in just his first year of the show. By 1938 the FCC got involved, and this was due to the remarks that were made by him, which were generally accepted to have been unnecessary. Eventually, the controversy passed and so the old radio shows gained yet more ratings.

Many more dummy characters joined his act soon enough as the years passed by. While one would normally consider a ventriloquist act dependent on visualization, the show continued to be popular on the radio. As it happens, Edgar Bergen rarely performed on TV.

Charlie was soon donated to the Smithsonian following Bergen's decision to retire in 1978. He expired just a week after this, immediately after performing in a show featuring Andy Williams.

The Radio Hall of Fame and Museum in Chicago currently houses three of the puppets Bergen used, including of course Charlie. In 1990 The Edgar Bergen/Charlie McCarthy show was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
